IMAP Email is the most flexible way to connect your firm's mailbox to Filed. It works with custom business email addresses, hosted Exchange servers, and any other provider that supports standard IMAP access. Once connected, you can ask Filed Chat to pull up recent client emails and summarize what needs attention, or set up a Routine that checks the inbox on a schedule.
You connect with the server settings and credentials from your email provider or IT administrator. Filed reads only what the connected account can see. When Write access is enabled, it can also send approved emails through your SMTP server, and you review those before they go out.
How it works
- Connect any mailbox that supports standard IMAP access
- Search and list messages across your server's folders
- Read full emails, including recipients and attachment details
- Send approved emails via SMTP when Write access is on
Ask Filed, in your own words.
Starting points for this connection. Swap the bracketed details for your client and your dates.
Find recent IMAP Email information related to [client name] and summarize the key items.
Show me anything from the last 30 days that needs a response or follow-up.
With write access enabled, create the approved follow-up for [client name] for my review.
The questions firms ask us
Your IMAP and SMTP server hostnames and ports, plus your email username and password. Your provider or IT administrator has these, and the docs list common settings for Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and iCloud.
Only if your provider allows it for IMAP. Many providers with two-factor authentication require an app-specific password for third-party clients, so generate one of those instead.
The stored credentials stop working and the connection shows an error. Reconnect the integration with the updated password to restore it.
