At Filed, our mission started with a single moment.
An accountant couldn’t onboard my prior business because of staffing issues. That sparked a deeper question: how could we help the profession rebuild capacity without hiring sprees or sacrificing quality?
Today, we’re proud to announce our public launch and a $17.2M pre-seed and seed round, backed by Northzone, Neo, Raine, Day One Ventures, J Ventures, Greens Ventures, alongside angel investors.
This milestone follows four months of live deployment and tens of thousands of returns processed through Filed in Q1 2025.
From strip malls to offshore floors
In 2024, we went to the Midwest and embedded inside accounting firms of all sizes, from small storefronts to multi-office practices. We saw the same thing everywhere: paper drop-offs, fax machines, endless phone queues, and overworked teams doing their best with tools that hadn’t kept up. We started building software, thinking better tooling would solve the problem. But a question from one CPA changed everything:
“How would my team in India use this?”
That question sent us deeper. We flew to India, sat with dozens of offshore teams, and studied how the work really gets done. What we found wasn’t a tooling issue. It was a labor issue. Much of the work was repetitive, rules-based, and ideal for automation.
Filed was born from that insight.
An AI tax preparer that fits how firms actually work
Filed automates the most time-consuming parts of tax prep. It organizes documents, validates returns, and flags anomalies based on the logic your team already uses. It integrates directly with CCH Axcess, UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake, and other major tax software.
Firms using Filed in Q1 2025 reduced turnaround times from a week to overnight. Review cycles dropped by 30 to 50 percent. One partner put it simply:
“What used to be our ceiling is now our starting point.”
Choice and control, onshore and offshore
Filed gives firms flexibility. You can keep work onshore and let AI handle the busywork. Or you can scale your offshore team with automation that supports your exact process. Either way, you stay in control.
Filed is not a black-box solution. It mirrors your workflows and reflects your standards.
Built by a team that understands both trust and scale
Filed is co-founded by Leroy Kerry (formerly at Juni) and Atul Ramachadran (formerly McKinsey and PayPal), with a team from Spotify, VISA, KPMG, and Deloitte. We’ve built infrastructure that earns trust, and we know trust matters more than hype in this industry.
In tax, flashy demos don’t build confidence. Precision does. Auditability does. Respecting the workflow does.
What’s next
With this funding, we’re expanding our platform to support the full return lifecycle, from prep and review to document management, client collaboration, and audit readiness.
Filed exists to power the modern accounting workforce, wherever it sits.
If you’re building a high-performing firm and want a closer look at what we’ve built, we’d love to connect.
Thank you to our investors, early customers, and the incredible team bringing this vision to life. We're just getting started.
